How Often Should Your Kansas City Business Be WordPress Blogging?
So the question starts with “How Often Should….” The assumption in this question is that you should be blogging. But is that assumption correct? So before I talk about how often you should be blogging, let me give you the main two reasons you might want to be blogging.
First Reason – Subject Matter Expert, Leading To Brand Awareness.
Over time, people who enjoy your blog and find the content relevant, will share your blog, and eventually you will have ten’s of thousands of people waiting in anticipation of your next blog post. This will make you and your business popular, thus eventually leading to increased brand awareness. Increased brand awareness means more customers. Now to do this, you must have an initial plan to market your blog, and then continually within your blog posts emphasize the need for your readership to share your posts.
Second Reason – Google Says So.
Actually, what Google says is, that you should be providing fresh new content to your customers on a regular basis. If you do this, Google will reward your Website with higher Kansas City SEO rankings in their search results. One of the easiest ways to provide the consumer with fresh new content is by blogging. So, if you want to rank higher in Google you should be blogging.
So now to the question…..
How Often Should Your Kansas City Business Be WordPress Blogging?
I’m going to focus on the second reason (Google Says So) when answering this question. The first reason, “brand awareness” is really a question of how engaging is your topic, and how often will people actually read your post. Hard to gauge what people find interesting.
Now for the second reason (Google Says So). What you should know is that the answer to this questions is not the same for all Kansas City businesses. You first have to determine how Google competitive an industry are you in. Meaning, if you do a Google search for your service, for example ( Web Design Kansas City) how many competitors come up on the first few pages of Google. If you get to about page eight in the search results, and you’re not seeing repeat links for the same business, then you ARE in a competitive business. If you do a search for your business service, and there’s maybe three businesses listed, and the rest of the links are for Wikipedia entries, then you are not in a competitive industry.
If you are in a competitive industry, the short answer to the question of how often should be blogging is…. You cannot blog to often, and you cannot blog too much content.
Most SEO experts will say that a good blog post is 300 to 500 words. I agree with that. Also, if you are in a competitive industry, you should be blogging at least once a week if not more often than that.
Ouch!!!! 300 to 500 words at least once a week!!!!
It really just begs the question. How important is it to your business to be on the first page of Google?
If the answer is very important, than you need to find a way to be blogging more. A good blog post takes at least one hour to write. And most important, not only should it be relevant to the consumer’s needs, but it should also contain the key words you want to show up for in Google. So, as a Kansas City service business, in a competitive industry, you should be blogging at least once a week , 300 to 500 words.
