October 12th Development Meeting
Sean and I met with Chris to discuss Bootstrap vs. Material Design, we also discussed other development related items. Sean and I started by updating Chris on exactly what Bootstrap and Material Design are, Bootstrap is a framework based on grid layouts. Material Design is a Google framework that makes the elements feel native to Android devices. While it lacks some of the major key elements Bootstrap offers, it’s trying to make the UI feel natural and more fluid with that of the device (as long as it’s Android). After discussing and reviewing each, we determined that for at least the next year we will stick with the Bootstrap framework as our primary source of building sites.
During our discussions several questions were brought up related to the new process and what the BA can do to help us as developers. One major item that was discussed was related to mobile design, should we be building from mobile to desktop or keep building like we are which is desktop to mobile. While we ended up deciding to stick with how we are doing it, we did request that the BA starts talking with the client about the mobile design. We can show, hide, resize and reorder different elements of the layout for a mobile device to make the interaction feel more fluid and provide a better viewing experience.
