What We Learned Reviewing Our Own Website for Accessibility

At KC Web Specialists, LLC, we encourage business owners to make their websites more accessible for people with disabilities. We wanted to apply that same attention to our own website—and show what the process actually involved.

Our project reinforced an important lesson: accessibility takes testing, informed judgment and continued attention.

How We Approached the Review

We began by scanning kcwebspecialists.com with PowerMapper OnDemand Suite, using WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our scanning target. The findings gave our team a practical starting point for investigating potential barriers and making corrections.

We also used ARC Toolkit, axe DevTools, Lighthouse, Silktide and WAVE to examine the website from additional testing perspectives.

We worked through the reported errors and warnings, correcting confirmed issues. Afterward, we manually reviewed suspected false positives against WCAG 2.1 AA. Those focused checks helped us determine whether disputed findings represented actual accessibility issues; they were narrower than a complete manual WCAG 2.1 AA audit.

What Changed—and What Continues

Alongside the remediation work, we published our website accessibility policy. It communicates our commitment and gives visitors a way to contact us about accessibility difficulties.

The outcome we want to emphasize is a more accessible website and a demonstrated commitment to continued improvement. We continue monitoring for issues because websites change as new content, forms and features are added.

An automated report helps identify findings worth investigating. It does not establish permanent accessibility or provide an ADA compliance certification.
